As I feel myself consumed
by insanity
I grasp repeatedly
impossible reality.
I sink in quicksand,
a hungry suction
drags me down.
I flail,
helpless in never-ending

There is no danger
no quicksand
this mindset
consumes me,
its energy,

Twisted nostalgia skips
across scratched memory
seen, felt, heard,
and as a puppet
I re-enact it all
over and over
until spring
thaw when
lucidity awakes
 and speaks:
"stand step back
stand step back
look listen hold on."

Winds of change

Sudden blizzard

unleashes ghostly breath

misting in deathly white

hurling frozen fistfuls

to angry winds

until new day dawns

a fresh crystal blanket

each tree, each post

wedding white

burying all remains—

not lost, just waiting

to be uncovered

by wind and sun.

Kim is the host today at dVerse Poets Pub for Quadrille Monday: ‘Ghost’.

Late December

When winter nights grow long,

smoke curls into burdened skies,

sun flashes grey with purple and rose,

and joyful songs sparkle

celebrating light’s return.

Was it the fanfare

and proclamations of cheer

or the bone-chilling nights

that carved a new path to my heart?

∼My first 2017 Quadrille for dVerse Poets Pub—my little pup is curled in my lap as I prepare to click ‘Publish’.∼

As ink dries

My first pen

 a disposable

plastic cartridge

filled with ink.

An abandoned

inkwell hole

gaped at the

right front corner

of each school desk.

My father’s

dip pen

in a drawer.

I wonder

if children

of the future

will have

Summer storm: when it rains it pours

Summer downpour

Thunder growls, flashes descend,

Summer downpour

Seeds burst open, buried dreams soar,

Stale hearts waken, new hopes ascend,

Wily winds blow as time warps bend,

Summer downpour.

For more summer storms, please visit  Jane Dougherty’s challenge post #45.  This week she invited us to try a Rondelet using ‘summer storm’ as inspiration. For those wanting to know more about Rondelets, here is an informative Shadow Poetry link.

Fresh Winds–a collection of haiku for Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge

Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge Image.

Soft fresh breeze,

felt, heard, yet unseen,

Tree tops sway.

Facing cold wind gusts,

bent forward, trudging into

 sparkling morning chill.

Windswept life,

ready for fresh start,

ghosts return.

Gale force winds of change,

State-of-the-art invention,

Old ways in disguise.

In response to Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge #101, ‘fresh’ & ‘wind’.  Ronovan’s challenge is to write haiku that include the two prompt words or their synonyms.  The prompt words this week stimulated a few themes for me.
