all that glitters

Summer takes another bow,

goldenrod,

sunflowers,

Black-eyed Susans,

bright echoes of her flaming rays

all her glitter now shimmers gold

Silken wings flirt and flutter

a shy gobbler wanders from the bush

cicadas call and every hour

a fresh generation chimes

It’s never over

summer rain

dark summer day

air clings to humidity

clouds hoard the rain

the beans grow inches

when summer rains

in mid-summer rain

a green umbrella rises

young sunflower stems
